You might have noticed I have a bunch of movies listed on the schedule for Friday. Unfortunately I managed to kill something on the PC that runs this stuff, so unless I can fix it tonight, the movies are off. Yes, yes, I need more redundancy and backups.

Perhaps more incredible than Hulu’s enabling of RiffTrax’s free riffing of an episode of The Incredible Hulk is their putting the episode that probably helped launch Caption This! onto the world. Legend holds that in the early days of SciFi.com, when the net was still ruled by .edu’s, alt.’s and rec.’s, some techs were installing a screengrabber to add a ‘now playing’ image to the schedule page and saw more or less this image:

One of them cracked wise, “I’d like to buy the Hulk a Coke”, and a light bulb went off. Soon, Caption This! was unleashed on the world and the rest is history. You can watch the whole episode (complete with Gordon “the Big Guy” Jump) for the price of sitting through some ads.
