I vote, no shoutbox. Let the innate conservatism (or, loyalty to the old MST3K & CT! school) of capping be directed at this, rather than at some more major upgrade or innovation (see CapperWiki.com, The future of capping page.)

I’ll admit. Chat is one of those features I’ve resisted putting on, since the gallery already works as a chat room, more or less. Adding real time chat might thorw off the ‘delicate’ balance between capping and chatting that we have now. However, a shoutbox with a slow refresh (~25 secs?) might work.

I always thought it would be a good feature to put a shoutbox on the IS gallery to the side somewhere

Oh, and if you’re looking for new features to add, you could repost an entry for a story if someone has added a comment. In which case you could display the comment count somewhere in the entry, or maybe even “Comment added by whosit”.

The aggregator stuff is great. I’m using it in Bloglines, and so far it works fine. I noticed that the first time it pulled entries, the older ones didn’t have saved pictures, but all of the recent ones have. Also, I like the format (first picture & caption displayed - enough of a teaser to let me decide if I want to read the rest of the story)
