Less Grabs About Buildings and Food

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

The larchesAs you may have noticed, over the past few weeks I’ve been quietly waging a campaign to make a drastic step-up in the quality of grabs in heavy rotation here. This doesn’t mean that every last building, keogh, landscape, industrial whosicallit, and virtually identical to the last one grab has been removed. It just means there are a lot fewer of them, and your odds of getting something more inspiring by refreshing the image a few times are a lot higher.

We put it together over at the Capper Wiki. It was written by Jazzsoda, Matteus, Pumaman2o, Soozcat, YibbleGuy, and myself, and performed by ArchHallJr, Jazzsoda, Matteus, tinaw, and myself. A big round of thanks to all who helped out. I’m kind of proud of us.

Guest Blog: Running a Cap Gallery

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

In the interest of providing my readers a broader perspective, giving voice to diverse views, saving myself some work, and hopefully increasing this site’s exposure, from time to time I will offer guest bloggers a chance to speak.Today’s guest is long time Nite Shift capper Jazzsoda. In his spare time, he can be found bowling, shooting, clipping his toenails and spitting. In addition to writing for The Commune, Mr. Soda maintains the creatively named Jazzoda’s Caption Gallery which he will now go on about. Take it way, Jazz.

This means somethingEver wonder what it’s like to run a cap gallery? To peek behind the curtain and catch a glimpse of the Wizard, whizzing away and yelling at you to close the goddamned curtain, this stall is occupied? Well now, thanks to the magic of Gerson’s Blog-Pimping program…You Can.

Running a cap gallery is so fun I could poop, and often do. You get to spend your entire week pouring through thousands of caps the authors themselves didn’t give a second thought to, stoically holding extreme caption burn-out at bay as you plow through page after page of crap you’ve seen before. Lorne Party! Monday the 12th!

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Lorne GreeneThis year, Inventing Situations will be celebrating the most important day on the Canadian calendar – February 12th, Lorne Greene’s birthday. We won’t be following the Canadian custom of marking the day (and every other) by comically insisting we’re not Americans, instead we’ll mark it the same way we do every day here – running a load of Bonanzas.

Here’s the rundown:

10 AM Desert Justice w/ Hoyt Axton
12 PM The Gunmen (Currently in a 5 way tie for 3rd best grabs in the catalog!)
2 PM The Spanish Grant w/ Sebastian Cabot
4 PM The Stranger Ultra-Angry Lorne!
6 PM The Abduction Circus people. ‘Nuf sed.
8 PM Death at Dawn Ben is going to be hung.
10 PM Day of Reckoning Kahn tries to kill Adama. More or less.
12 AM Escape to Ponderosa

Note this is being run a little differently than most of our special events. Episodes start at the given time, and run until either they’re done or the next start time. Gaps will be filled in with ‘regularly scheduled’ material.
