Joel! Trace! Josh! Frank! Mary Jo! Riffing!

Wow, this is probably the best news I’ve had in ages. (Sad for me). But it does almost makes me feel sorry for Jim’s little effort. Interesting timing certainly. Go sign up for their newsletter.
[Addendum 6PM] Now that I’ve had time to let this wonderful news sink in, I just noticed this project has awfully familiar initials. I guess we’ll have to start using CT! as a retronym for Caption This! to distinguish it from CT.

NO FUCKING WAY!!!

The timing is interesting, but I’m going to assume it’s just shared interest in renewing and extending the brand. Maybe it’s just my over-fondness for Mallon’s Gypsy voice clouding my judgment, but I’m not sure he’s as bad as some are painting him out to be. Either way, though, this does sound like the much more interesting of the two projects. It will be interesting to see how this compares or overlaps with the Film Crew/Rifftrax crew.

Maaaan, consider the stars aligning! Nobody wake me, I want to hold onto this dream for a long damn time. Just too awesome.
It seems like they’re starting 20th anniversary celebrations early, but I am so not complaining.

If Mallon’s dinner didn’t consist of a puppy split with Bonnie Hammer, he’s probably not as bad as some msties think. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt of not being all about the money (or eating with Bonnie Hammer). But I’ll also be putting my money on CT to come closest to recapturing the lightning in a bottle.

True. The cartoon bots thing sounds like it could be cute, even potentially funny, but also sort of like it misses the point of what made MST3K work. The bots and their personalities were great, but the riffing on pop culture was what made it so much fun. And if you can’t provide that…or even, really, the same personalities…
I’m going to give them all the benefit of the doubt, though.

Same sentiment here on the Bots adventures. Imagine a sitcom down in Deep 13 (or even Gizmonics). Would that do any good (outside of fanfics)? But I plan to welcome each new endeavour with open arms, especially CT (it feels weird typing that for something else). I’m still giddy.
I’m sure Mallon has some good in him, but I’ve heard from a very reliable source that still waters run deep as far as relationships between him and some ex-castmates.
Funny, though, how Mallon makes an announcement about the Bots (with Cambot suspiciously absent) one day and THE NEXT DAY Joel releases the announcement which blows Mallon’s announcement out of the water. Anyone want to wager if this was planned like that?
As for Mallon eating puppy with Hammer, I had always imagined her feasting with Doug Herzog. I suppose there could be a third seat.

For local purposes, I humbly suggest that ‘Cinematic Titanic’ be abbreviated as
CTt
or variants, while Caption This[!] be
CT
or
CT!

Just read about this on the info club thingy, pretty sweet. It’s funny reading about it on the Rifftrax board, It’s like all the Mike sycophants from the old Joel/Mike flame wars days took up residence there.
The Bot toon news leaves me cold, but I always liked Paul as a writer/comedian

Wow, I’m scared to look. After diving back into mst fan boards last year after a long absence, I was amazed to find how many people with enough taste to call themselves msties lacked not only the taste to prefer Joel, but even to appreciate him. (Yes, this is how I’m rebuilding the site, by alienating the Mike fans.)
As for the abbreviation, I’ve seen all sorts of suggestions floated by people who don’t even seem aware of the CT! issue, but I’d be surprised to see anything other than CT become the mainstream abbrev. for the new effort, so we’ll be relying on the !, clarifiers and context.

Gerson - those people who don’t prefer Joel are called ‘conoisseurs’.
It means they have enough taste to dislike someone/something, but not enough taste to appreciate the best in anything (that has a best, eh.)
The latter are, to coin a phrase, enlightened gourmets.

I suggest that it be abbreviated as:
C Tit
because any boob can see it’s logical and keeps abreast of the times. Ah, such fond mammaries…
