It’ll just be a four day affair, Thanksgiving to Sunday. As usual, there’ll be screengrabs from the original versions of films that were featured on mst3k for everyone to come and riff on their own. You can see the list of movies here, but you’ll have to guess when your favorites are airing. I like the element of surprise. Sorry for not making a bigger production out of it, but (a) the kids at Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic have re-lit the torch sufficiently that I don’t feel as much of a need to keep it going and (b) because.

Before Saturday night’s movie JoeCrow was kind enough to take us into his Jersey lair aka The BotCave, where he builds Servos, Crows and other bots for common fans and even folks like Joel Hodgson (pictured at left with me at my goofiest).

We got to see the wonders of how a bot is built, and Joe even made us some Servo heads that we were able to be goofy with at the show (hoisting them when Servo was mentioned or alluded to).

Anyway, the show was excellent, and I’ll be running some of the pictures for your capping pleasure Monday June 22 @ 8 PM Eastern on Inventing Situations. You can preview (and well, caption) them by clicking the image here (that’s the end of the stream, the start is here).

Wow, an indirectly mst3k inspired t-shirt I designed in the presence of Trace and one time t-shirt factory employee Joel. At the school whose rejection letter sent me into a nearly two decade long downward spiral. This means something.

* Limited to the tiny number I could sell.

After going on and on about JoeCrow Day, here’s a little screengrab of his work on the new mst3k vol 10.2. The new segment, with Joel, Trace, and Frank returning to the roles that made them famous (and Frank taking on a new one), is only three and a half minutes, but along with Cinematic Titanic (and Rifftrax, if that’s the way you roll), makes for a great 20th anniversary present for msties.
If the dvd sets are a little pricey for your taste, then buying all four discs for this single segment is probably overkill, but Rhino is making the disc available for special order at a more than fair price. While they might not look exactly as they did a decade or so ago, the cast members sure act like them old selves and it was certainly great to see Dr. F giving Frank a well deserved beating again, not to mention Tom getting a RAM chip and taking advantage of the chroma needed to get him back on the SOL bridge. As for Joe’s bot-building prowess – if I hadn’t known these were fan made, I’d have never guessed they weren’t the handiwork of the Brains themselves. Unless Joe has perpetrated an elaborate and prescient put-on, the autograph at left from the big man himself puts it best. Hopefully we’ll get to see more of Joe’s bots in action when Shout Factory takes over the release of mst3k discs, and he’ll actually get a little shout out on the discs themselves.

Not only is it finally available for pre-order at amazon complete with a sketch of Joel, Josh and Trace explaining why the disc needed to be replaced, rumor has it that it also features some of the work of beloved capper and known Zamboniist JoeCrow. Rhino is supposed to be offering Giant Gila Monster as a standalone disc via their website at some point for a limited time, targeted at the people who already got volume 10 when it was briefly on the shelves. The set also contains 503 What to do on a Date / Swamp Diamonds, 514 Is This Love? /Teenage Strangler, and 810 Giant Spider Invasion.

Order it now so you can be amongst the first to celebrate JoeCrow day when it arrives at your home. The disc, not the day.

I’ve added two more “new” movies, Ring of Terror and Gamera. It’s not exactly the same version of Gamera the Brains used, General Curly Joe’s not in there, but close enough by my standards. I’ve also got fresh grabs for Master Ninja I and First Spaceship to Venus.

I’ve got two more new movies that’ll be surprises during the marathon, they’re listed as “Mystery Box” on the schedule, and I’m going to try to add new grabs for a few more movies.
