MST3k the legacy series?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Remember Tom Servo, Crow, and Gypsy? Well, they’re coming back, in cartoon form. Read about it at mst3kinfo.com, the official mst3k site until this animated thing replaces it.  Original voice of Gypsy, exec producer, and rights holder Jim Mallon is in charge of the project, and writer/performer/not one of the previous voices of Crow Paul Chaplin is also on board as a writer and Crow’s voice. No word yet on who’ll be playing Tom. But the site will also be making material from The Original Series available. Sorry, The Legacy Series. Apparently, it’s a PITA software system that’s only being kept around because it’d be too much trouble to replace.

Kolchak & Brains

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Inspired by the odd obsession of one of noble competitors, we now have the too inside for anybody’s good LOLchak the Night Stalker, put together by UnReality of Caption This! fame. Am I posting this to mock the competition or because it’s funny? Umm, yes!

Meanwhile, former Brains continue to keep busy. In addition to the usual RiffTrax chicanery, The Giant of Marathon, the fourth (of four?) Film Crew movies by Mike, Kevin and Bill is out. (And like numbers two and three, you can request a free chance to caption it at IS. (Sure it’s more complicated and less instantaneous than other capping catalog systems, but I don’t think accidentally gotten stuck capping a request yet.)

And the Brains continue to make online videos! Huzzah.

The Greatest Frank of all

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Maybe not the greatest, but certainly the newest:

Frank writes, stars as Moodsy the Clinically Depressed Owl, and co-produces Cartoon Dump, a literal dumping ground for the worst cartoons ever. Well worth a watch. That and some Little Boy Blue will help fill the void of IS.

Picking The Next Serial

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

The new year will start with the capping of the last episode of Flash Gordon Conquers The Universe, which means it’s almost time for me to start getting screengrabs from the next serial. It also means that since the last two episodes will be running on holidays, I’ll play them each on their regular spot on Monday at 6 PM AND Tuesday at 8 PM for those of you who’ll be celebrating/hungover on the 25th/1st. At any rate, I’m going to let you good folks vote on the next serial to get capped. Also, if anybody has any suggestions for a new time slot, I’m open to that too. Here then, the choices:
You will believe a man can fly! Seriously.1. Radar Men From The Moon:

Pros:

  • Some cappers may already be kind of familiar with it thanks to its presence on mst3k.
  • Goofy looking moon men and cool looking jet packs.
  • I’ve already got all 12 episodes grabbed, so I can sit back (though I’ll probably go ahead and redo some episodes and trim the chaff from the rest).
  • Grabs coming from relatively decent prints.

Cons:

  • The first nine episodes have been part of the last four Turkey Week marathons.
  • Suffers from GISRAS (Guys In Suits Running Around Syndrome).

2. Dick Tracy (1937):

Pros:

  • I haven’t watched this one, but I imagine it’s fewer goofy suits, if you don’t care for that sort of thing.
  • It’s entirely new to Inventing Situations.
  • Dick Tracy. It’s a funny name.
  • Familiarity born of being on the funny pages for decades.

Cons:

  • Looks like chapter two might be missing from the archive.
  • Probably also suffers from GISRAS.
  • Questionably print quality.

See? Goofy!3. Undersea Kingdom

Pros:

  • Unspeakably goofy.
  • MST-borne familiarity.
  • Only two episodes have appeared on IS so far.

Cons:

  • Unspeakably goofy.
  • Questionably print quality.

4. Zorro’s Fighting Legion

Ok, this one’s a total unknown for me. I just figured it probably doesn’t suffer from GISRAS as badly as some of the others, but apart from that, all I know is I can get the whole thing from the archive.
p.s. Wasn’t it sporting of me not to mention the drama over at that other capping site? Darn. Guess I just did. Ooops.

The Turkey Schedule

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

[Note 11/22/6: We've been spending a lot of time running much more than 5 minutes off schedule. I have to jury-rig the system to be able to have items start and end at appointed times, and usually that rig works a little better than it does this year. First off, I will do my best to make sure the premieres (the stuff labeled as 'new') start. Second off, most of the stuff I've trimmed from the schedule to catch up, will replay starting late Sunday afternoon between the capper choice segments.]

[Edit 11/23/6: Happy Thanksgiving! I just adjusted the Turkey Week festivities. If all goes according to plan, items may start up to 5 minutes after the labeled time. If things don’t go according to plan, then you’re guess is as good as mine. There’ll be more repeats into the day on Sunday, but those are gonna be decided by poll and whim. All times eastern standard

Mon Nov 20th 12:00 AM 101 The Crawling Eye
Mon 1:10 AM 102 Radar Men From The Moon Chapter 1
Mon 1:45 AM 102 The Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy
