Despite the existence of open forums, yahoo groups, and even this blog, I’ve created yet another place for cappers to kibitz rather than cap: The Cappers This! facebook group. It’s also part of my quest to be consistently 1 to 3 years behind the times. Go ahead, sign yourself up.

Four Star Theater has moved to Mondays

Our weekly dose of the movies and whatnot that cappers have rated as their favorites to caption has moved to Monday nights at 8 PM eastern. So those of you swinging by on Wednesday nights - sorry, you’ll have to make due with our usual fare. Though we might toss on something special for the first week of the move (4/23).

Don’t forget that the programming for four star theater is decided by your votes - so when you see that ‘tag it & rate it’ notice, click it and rate the ‘cap’-ability of the material - anything that averages a rating of four or better gets a slot in four star theater, in addition to its usual slot in the rotation. And the stuff that comes in at two or lower will play less frequently in the regular rotation.

And don’t forget to tune in to Inventing Situations on Monday 4/28 @ 8PM for The Amazing Transparent Man, as featured in mst3k episode [623].

Capper wiki needs YOU! Or is it you? Maybe you?

And now an important plea from ArchHallJr (the capper, not the actor). Apologies if you’ve already heard it, but Arch has made a great start of the CapperWiki, and now he needs somebody to step up and help keep it serving the community - Gerson

Folks,

By now most of you have noticed that I cannot give the wiki the time it deserves to be maintained, developed and otherwise. I am asking that someone within the capping community take over the responsibility of controlling and maintaining the wiki. It is possible that the job could be split into two parts. Firstly, the aforementioned controlling and maintaining the site. Second, someone who develops the site. However, it is possible the two jobs can go to the same person. I will continue to pay for the hosting and domain name. I have no problem with this as this community has given me so much over the years, it is the least I can do. But whomever takes over will have final say on decisions pertaining to all things wiki. Regardless of me paying the bills, I will not be a ’shadow’ owner, I am giving up complete control. I will stay on as a ‘consultant’ and help with any issues that may crop up as best I can. Gerson has also offered to help in a limited capacity as well. I would ask that whoever is interested have a decent tech background. You don’t need to be super sysadmin or an ubercoder, but more than a modicum of technical expertise is kind of required to do this and do it right. My guess is that there are several people within the group that fit this description. The question is do you want the responsibility? If you do, please be sure. In the words of the immortal Mayor Chapstick, no givesies-backsies! ;)

I apologize to you all for not giving the site the attention it needs but my life in the real world is not compatible with maintaining and/or developing the wiki at this time. Heck, it hasn’t been for some time. I think you all know that. It is my sincere hope that this decision will make the wiki a better place to visit and source of enjoyment for everyone.

If you are interested, contact me via this handy form and know that I will help with the transition and get you where you need to be to be the full on site admin for the wiki. You won’t be stepping into it alone. Thank you for your time

Joe and the bots

After going on and on about JoeCrow Day, here’s a little screengrab of his work on the new mst3k vol 10.2. The new segment, with Joel, Trace, and Frank returning to the roles that made them famous (and Frank taking on a new one), is only three and a half minutes, but along with Cinematic Titanic (and Rifftrax, if that’s the way you roll), makes for a great 20th anniversary present for msties.
If the dvd sets are a little pricey for your taste, then buying all four discs for this single segment is probably overkill, but Rhino is making the disc available for special order at a more than fair price. While they might not look exactly as they did a decade or so ago, the cast members sure act like them old selves and it was certainly great to see Dr. F giving Frank a well deserved beating again, not to mention Tom getting a RAM chip and taking advantage of the chroma needed to get him back on the SOL bridge. As for Joe’s bot-building prowess - if I hadn’t known these were fan made, I’d have never guessed they weren’t the handiwork of the Brains themselves. Unless Joe has perpetrated an elaborate and prescient put-on, the autograph at left from the big man himself puts it best. Hopefully we’ll get to see more of Joe’s bots in action when Shout Factory takes over the release of mst3k discs, and he’ll actually get a little shout out on the discs themselves.
