News

December 16, 2009 Quote big shot editor Tom Roche - "I hear tell - as the country folk say - that Space Ghost comes out of retirement Thursday at midnight on Adult Swim." Color us intrigued. Our cable guide still says Robot Chicken though.

December 14, 2009 - As more attentive people warned you, there was an ad for Avatar starring Space Ghost during [Adult Swim] last night. We apologize if you missed it, but really, why weren't you watching Venture Bros.?

September 12, 2006 - Gametap.com has been featuring new mini-episodes of C2C for several months. There are a couple available for free, including one with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, and another with Pac-Man player Billy Mitchell. The Wayne Coyne one's got some good moments. We're not sure how new these things are, who wrote them, or how many more are available with a subscription. Fortunately, gametap has seen fit to stream the free episodes with extra stuttering that can no doubt be easily overcome if you've got the sort of tools typically used for saving streaming videos to your hard drive. However, if you're just visiting their site with a high speed connection and standard issue browser and media player, thinking about paying them for their content and not interested in "sharing" it with your "friends" you'll probably be stuck with the stuttering.
Thanks to Andrew Eckel for pointing out the freebies, and apologies to him and everyone else for taking so long to report this.

June 14, 2006 - Voice of Zorak and Moltar/C2C animation director Clay Croker's got a blog. Go visit it now - it's more fun than molesting Spider-Man.

May 28, 2006 - Alex Toth, Space Ghost's creator passed away at his drawing board yesterday morning. It's a testament to his talents that Space Ghost and his foes could survive the manglings they faced.

November 9, 2004 - Minor spoiler that we failed to spoil in advance (select text to read): the second half of this Sunday's "premiere" of the new Williams Street "show" "Squidbillies" featured a panel discussion moderated by Space Ghost himself. Thanks for the crumbs, guys! It'll probably air again Friday AM. IGN's recent interview with Keith Crofford suggests that this sort of thing is the best we can expect for the forseeable future.

Also, the second set of C2C DVDs are scheduled for release next Tuesday. We're sure your favorite DVD news site has figured out the extras better than we have. And going back even further, the ATHF volume 2 had plenty of crud from Baffler Meal. Looking to the future, we may get lucky and see the special episode from The Mask VHS release show up on the upcoming DVD special edition of said film.

And hey, Moltar's on a new Adult Swim shirt!

June 11, 2004 - George Lowe (you know, Space Ghost) will be at DreamCon in Jacksonville, FL this weekend. He'll be panelling, Q&Aing and MCing their Iron Artist competition. Of course, our genius EIC just returned from his first trip to Florida last Thursday. Way to schedule a trip, genius. Also appearing will be mc chris, aka Hesh from Sealab.
And September 10th to October 10th, Coast to Coast will be making a return appearance at the Museum of TV and Television in New York and LA as part of their Look! Up at the Screen! It’s Superheroes on Television screenings. This is, of course, right after our EIC's day job is moving from New York to Florida with or without him. We think Space Ghost is trying to tell him something, but we'll be damned if we know what it is.
Oh, and if you're all very good we'll have our reflections on a decade of Coast to Coast before they make it to their 11th birthday.

April 6, 2004 - This April 15th, there'll be more than the usual reason to celebrate - it's the tenth anniversary of the premiere of Space Ghost Coast to Coast. To mark the event, on Sunday the 11th we'll be getting a one time only airing of an unfinished and previously unseen episode (contrary to what it says on the schedule). In an inspiring move, they've called it "Unfinished POS" on the ad cards during Adult Swim. A decade, an you believe it? We'd put something profound here, but we've been fighting writer's block for a good long time. And rumor has it we'll be getting more new episodes this year.

November 9, 2003 - 11/23/03 - Whipping Post with Dennis Miller, 11/30/03 Eat a Peach with William Shatner, 12/7/03 In Memory of Elizabeth Reed with Todd Barry, 12/14/03 Idlewild South with Jeff Probst, 12/21/03 One Way Out with Seth Green, 12/28/03 as yet untitled ep with Seth MacFarlane.

September 15, 2003 - Hi. Remember us? We've been doing the first person plural thing for ages. Anyway, here's what we've gleaned from the [Adult Swim] cards. The new epsiodes will be:

As long as they're going to have a couple of guests from a network discard that's getting big ratings for AS, why not just get Billy West or John DiMaggio and re-run Glen Campbell? Well, anyway, no need to complain further about the first real run of new episodes after two years. Of course, it looks like the Seths will be one show, which leaves us one short of the prominsed six. Hmmmm. Did we mention we're just fans, not affiliated with Coast to Coast in any way? (thanks to Greg Falcon at verylowsodium.com)

September 15, 2003 - Of course, right before the new episodes come out, the old ones will arrive on a two disc DVD set - November 18th to be exact. It appears they'll contain most everything listed over at this site up to and including Explode, with the possible exceptions of Self Help, Le Livre D'Histoire and the holiday episodes. Though we have read The Mask will be included. It looks like there'll be commentaries from George Lowe, C. Martin Croker and Andy Merrill on at least the first 10 episodes and Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer have recorded a commentary track for Girlie Show, one of the two eps they penned in the collection. The Aqua Teens also have a disc coming out. And as you no doubt know, the more copies of the C2C discs you buy and give as gifts or use as coasters, the more likely we'll be to see more.(Thanks to Manny O. aka spaceghostfan1).

September 15, 2003 - Viewers who caught the cards before Sealab last night were saddened to learn that Harry Goz, the voice of Captain Murphy, had passed away earlier this week. Harry had a long career in stage and screen before coming to Sealab. It's hard to imagine Sealab without him.

September 15, 2003 - Home Movies stands to lap Coast to Coast in an important category. In close to a decade of work, C2C has only managed to get about 10 seconds of John Flansburgh on the air. In their much shorter life span, Home Movies has not only recorded Mr. Flansburgh but also John Linnell (the other half of They Might Be Giants) for a guest spot as camp counselors. What's more, it sounds like this will actually air in an upcoming episode. They've even recorded a new song called Taste the Fame for the episode. The song is currently on the EBS band of their streaming audio clock radio at their website.

May 26, 2003 - Those of you who watched like we told you, saw the following in spiffy new text ads during last night's Adult Swim (bolds mine):
"We have now edited many of the older C2C's to eleven minutes. / So that we can fit them into the Williams Street hour. / We don't know quite why we made them so long in the first place. / We were new to television. / But now the old versions are gone. / Toast. / However, Erik in Consumer Products tells us they will release DVDs in the fall. / And the long versions will be on the DVDs. / But who the hell knows."
and later in the hour they announced:
"BTW, / We have six more SGC2C's in production."
In a later promo they also mentioned 13 new Brak shows coming in October. Maybe later when we're not trying to catch a New Jersey, we'll find out who the hell knows about these DVDs and if they're just messing with our heads.

February 25, 2003 - First the good news : cartoonnetwork.com has updated their schedule, and Coast to Coast returns on March 30th with a rerun of Knifin' Around. Unfortunately, that's the last Sunday they've added data for, so we only hope it'll be on the schedule for a while.

But, Cartoon Network has also announced a slate of new programming, including new episodes of Brak, ATHF, and Sealab, but with Space Ghost nowhere to be seen.

December 11, 2002 - Not to get your hopes up again, but it looks like 2003 may well start with a brand new episode entitled Baffler Meal. Right now, the official schedule just says Episode #2301 for the C2C episode that will air at 12 AM New Year's. But, according to what looks like a CN press relase at www.animatedbliss.com that will be a brand new episode featuring Colonial Man, Willlie Nelson, and the Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The epsiode will of course be preceeded by the festive dropping of Meatwad on Times Square. If we can find one willing to brave the crowds, we'll be sending a reporter with a spatula and a sandwich bag. animatedbliss also reports the entire evening will be hosted by Carl and Brak. Meanwhile, the official schedule is up to January 24th, but only has C2C up until January 5th. Also watch out for the C2C Christmas Special, airing 2 AM Christmas Morn. Thanks to the unoffical Adult Swim site for bringing all this to our attention.

October 25, 2002 - Cartoon Network has announced plans to air Adult Swim five nights a week (Sunday through Thursday). Notably absent from the announcements is mention of Coast to Coast. Hopefully it just means it will be airing outside of Adult Swim, but it would be nice to know. We're trying to find out, and will let you know when we do. In the meantime, the mysterious December 1st episode is now listed as Untitled on the schedule.

September 26, 2002 - According to the handy Cartoon Network schedule page, the C2C episode on December 1st has the brand new title of Drop Out. Is it a new episode, clever repackaging, not so clever repackaging, or something else all together? Your guess is only slightly worse than ours.

August 13, 2002 - Space Ghost will be closing out Cartoon Network's 9 3/4 Birthday celebration at The Museum of Television & Radio in New York City and Los Angeles. They'll be showing epsiodes from Tuesday, September 10th to Sunday the 15th. There'll be a thirty-episode marathon screening Saturday and Sunday. Also selected in the afternoon. See their site for more details. The DGP's editor-in-chief will attempt to attend some of the New York shows, despite their generally awful scheduling.

August 13, 2002 - No word yet on any C2C/Adult Swim involvement at Dragon*Con in Atlanta at the end of this month. Toycom's Moltar, Zorak, and Brak have been in stores for a while.

June 30, 2002 - Amongst the promotions for the upcoming Powerpuff Girls movie is a series of five ads featuring Brak counting down to the movie and another one where he describes the flick. Our secret sources inform us the ads will be aired throughout the day on CN, though we haven't caught one yet. But we did catch SG telling us that we'll go see the movie and that he's a close personal friend of the "Powderpuff Girls" in an ad (complete with closing voice over by Brak) during tonight's Adult Swim.

June 29, 2002 - Space Ghost, Zorak and Brak will all make a brief appearance on the big screen next week. They're featured in the Cartoon Network movie logo that appears before the Powerpuff Girls movie. Maybe Moltar will make it in if they do a sequel. And is it just us, or is SG's chin a little, well, off? On a related note, there's a rumor afoot that a certain talking value combo will has a cameo in the actual movie. For more details on the logo, check out Cartoon Research.

September 5, $20.01 - The whole Adult Swim thing got under way this Sunday night, featuring a completely new episode of Coast to Coast - Knifin' Around, with Thom Yorke of Radiohead, and Björk and a rerun of Piledriver. The whole thing will be on again Thursday night starting at 10:00 PM, with Coast to Coast at 11:30 PM. Check out the schedule page to see the upcoming reruns of the two sneak peak episodes. (Note the "Liquor" added to Kentucky Nightmare.)

July 22, $20.01 - Britney3576 has a full report on the San Diego Con at his unofficial Adult Swim page. The gang showed Justice Hole, a new episode of Coast to Coast starring SCTV's Dave Thomas, that will apparently be shown on Cartoon Network today at midnight. The panel also brought the news that there will only be five new episodes of C2C this year, with guests including Björk, Tenacious D, Merrill Markoe, and Busta Rhymes. We're not sure if Kentucky Nightmare and Justice Hole are included in the five new episodes, or if there'll be a total of seven episodes this year. The report also includes a synopsis/spoiler for Justice Hole, and mentions that Leave it to Brak has been renamed The Brak Show thanks to a request from the owners of the old Leave it to Beaver show.

June 12, $20.01 - At 10 PM Sunday, September 2nd, Cartoon Network will premiere Adult Swim, a three hour block of adult oriented programming, featuring new episodes of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, the four new series from Williams Street - Leave it To Brak, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, plus new episodes of Home Movies (formerly of UPN). Adult Swim's regular time slots will be Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 PM to 1 AM. No word yet on what episodes will be on to start with, that is if they'll start with Kentucky Nightmare and the episodes of the new shows that aired in December or completely new material. Depending on its success, Adult Swim may be expanded to other nights and more shows. Read more about it at TV Guide (sorry for the pop-up).
